The Killers in Utah

Friday, The Killers came to Utah. Not just to Utah, but literally a 3 minute walk from my work. I was like, holy crap this is going to be the easiest show EVER. Exciting!

I got there at about 9 in the morning, and discovered that the majority of the group that I was hanging out with had slept there. Within that group, I got to meet a ton of victims that I had known online for forever. There were also these two adorable 15 year old Killers show first timers. They were such sweet kids. They were adorably excited, and all of us were probably just as excited for them as they were for themselves. And they kept on saying how they were practically equally as excited about sharing their experience with us as they were about the show. I love first timers. Especially when they’re young and you can tell that they’re genuinely fans. ❤ So sweet!

Here’s my group…

The two top right were the 15 year old kids. The 2 girls next to them go to college in Utah. I’m not sure who that guy on the end is, lol. Fred and I are center, and Cristina, Layne, Samantha, and Michelle are in the front. All VERY cool people. So glad I got to hang with them.

When we got in, we were lucky because we got barrier. Tegan & Sara came on. They were pretty good, actually. At the very end of their set though, the crowd started becoming crazy. Everybody was pushing (like, the crowd behind us as a whole) and crushing everyone. I’m not saying that’s not to be expected from time to time when you’re at a barrier, but this (ended up getting) WAY out of control. The Killers were SO amazing. They opened with Mr. Brightside with the lights on. It was SO amazing. ❤ The crowd just got worse from then on. I didn’t get many pictures because it was hard to hold my camera and hold onto the barrier, so after I bit I had to put it away. Then after that I couldn’t have gotten it back out anyway, because there was no room for my arm in the crowd with the way everyone was being crushed. Here’s a pic that i got though…

The whole night was a pain, but also one of the best shows I’ve ever seen put on. Some guy had his elbow digging into my collar bone for half of the night, and for a few songs, even digging into my throat. It was horrible. BUT! Even though the crowd seemed unruly and awful from inside of it, from the stage it looked like an amazing, energetic crowd. That made Brandon very happy, and I even saw a HUGE smile from…. wait for it…. Mark! Yes. Mark smiled. It was a little weird. Their enjoyment of the energy and excitement was the only thing that made that crowd experience bearable. They were all ecstatic through the whole show. They did Be Still! Okay, they did half of Be Still. Then Brandon had to stop it because his voice cut out. He was alright though. Then we went onto Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine.

I need to mention this… the opening to A Dustland Fairytale was the most heart breaking thing I’ve ever seen. I’m not sure if it was because Brandon had so much of his family there, what with it being Utah and all, but he REALLY went into an explanation. I can’t remember the speech, but he had to stop a few times in between and it was really raw and emotional. I THINK someone videoed it, so I’ll see if I can find a link to post later.

We got TONS of confetti. Little K’s and Lightning Bolts. ❤ FINALLY! Brandon did his barrier walk and I got to touch his arm. YAY! lol

By the end of the show only very few of our group was still together. Some of us had been pulled out by security, over the barrier (like about 30 other people that were either knocked out, passed out, or having panic attacks). Others had just been swallowed by the crowd.

After the show, we all met up again and luckily despite the horrible crowd, the victim babies still had the time of their lives. We all reassured them that it was NEVER like that. Even Michelle who had been to 30+ shows said this was by far the worst crowd experience she’d ever dealt with. Here’s another pic to break up some of this text, lol….

After we went to the merch table and got some things. Then out to the bus to see if they would come out. The security people said they wouldn’t be because Brandon had a huge family gathering going on inside with over 100 people that was being catered. This was the first time I ever believed security, because we had seen tons of people going into the family and friends door, and there had been caterers coming in and out of there all day. So we ended up leaving.

After we went to iHop and met up with a group we had kind of met in the crowd. Mostly one guy. It wasn’t long before we realized that one of the guys in his group was the guy that had his elbow digging into me the whole night. Turns out I wasn’t his only victim either. Before Samantha had been sucked away by the crowd he had been doing the same to her. The guy we really went over there to sit by was EXTREMELY nice, though. One of our girls had talked to him before the show started and talked about getting a phone case that they had at the merch table and how she was afraid it was going to sell out. Then she was the one who almost passed out and had to get pulled over the barrier. Eventually he actually did pass out and he got pulled over too. Later in the merch line while we were waiting he walked up to us, found her and handed her a Killers phone case because she was so upset that she had to leave and go to the back. ❤ He was such a sweetie. We also found out he had passed out because he was getting jabbed and rammed doubly hard because he was tensing up to keep this little girl in front of him from being squashed and killed. A true gentleman that one.

So anyway, to keep the peace we didn’t say anything to the guy that had been torturing us all night.

So overall, aside from the pain of the crowd, it was an AMAZING night! We saw one of the guys from Neon Trees in the audience. It was really fun!

Ooh! Side note! After they cut Be Still short, while Brandon was taking his break, he was talking to Ronnie. Someone from the audience threw something on stage and almost hit Ronnie in the face with it. The whole crowd started booing, and Brandon looked pretty pissed. Then Ronnie picked it up and walked to the front of the stage to the center mic and went “Some asshole decided to throw this at me.” And he held it up to show that it was one of those rubber wristband things. Then he said, “But it says Friendship, so I guess it’s fucking cool.”

Ronnie’s awesome.

Also, at some point in the night Brandon took a big swig out of a water bottle and then threw it out into the audience. I got splashed in the face with it. Brandon’s water was cover my face…. it was pretty special. lol

Okay, I’ll end it there, saying that I’m extremely grateful for the amazing show that was put on and the wonderful people that I got to meet. ❤

More crazy, if you’re ready for it.

Okay, so I had a legitimate conversation with Brandon Flowers. Like… that happened.

That’s right peeps. I was actually able to form complete sentences and engage in an ACTUAL conversation this time.

I went to a show in Richmond, VA on July 20th.

The show itself was amazing (songs from the new album and all), but this is about after the show, when BRANDON FREAKING FLOWERS and I talked.

Okay, so I don’t know if this conversation is as cool as I think it is, but I’m going to type it out word for word now.

So, Brandon came around and I asked him to take a picture with me (as seen below):

And then I asked him if the Battle Born tour was going to kick off in Vegas (because that’s what he had told Leah), and he said he kind of felt like they’d already started the Battle Born tour.

And I’m just going to do a dialogue for the rest of the conversation:

Me: “Oh. Well you should do a show in Vegas soon anyway, cause that’d be awesome.”
Brandon: “Oh. Do you live in Vegas?”
Me: “No. I live in Utah, but I’m just a few hours from Vegas.”
Brandon: “Really!? Which part are you from?”
Me: “I live in Salem. Do you know where that is? Not a whole lot of people know where that is.” (Because not even people in Utah know what the hell I’m talking about when I say Salem.)
Brandon: “Yeah! I used to play golf at Hobble Creek in Payson! I used to live in Payson.”
Me: “You did?!”
Brandon: “Yeah!”
Me: “I knew you lived in Utah, but I never knew you lived in Payson.” (Because in everything I’ve read, it only mentions that he lived in Nephi.)

Then he was being dragged into the crowd of other people to get things signed, so I said bye, and that it was really nice meeting him, and he bye, and it was amazing people.

He was so nice and chatty and so damn cute! He was smiling and so enthusiastic through the whole conversation! Gah I love him so much.

Then Dave came over, and I didn’t get a chance to say all that much to him but I got a picture. (Where I look like a total freak. Oh well.)

Ronnie & Mark both came out too! I didn’t get a picture with either of them, and I talked a little bit to Ronnie for a second.

Also, I finally have all 4 signatures on my day and age CD booklet! ❤

And then I realized I forgot to say hi for Ericka, and so when Brandon was leaving I yelled out “Brandon! My friend Ericka says hi!”

And I don’t know how well he heard me, but he said “HI!” So I guess he heard enough. So there’s that.

Orlando, take me back!

Alright, so I’m posting this on the 1 month anniversary of the actual events, but still. Better late than never, right?

Here it is. My Orlando story….
Also, prepare yourself for a really freaking long story.

Me and my sister flew out to Orlando on the 9th. We had tickets to do a Universal & Sea World, but more than anything, I was excited to go see The Killers. On the 10th, we went to go pick up my wristband for the warm-up show, and almost everyone in line weren’t actually victims, but people that had got an email and were excited about a free concert. That was a bit discouraging. Anyway, I’ll skip to the fun part… the 11th. I got to the Venue at about 2:00 to get in line. I met a couple of victims before Ericka (yummygummysweaterpuppies) and her brother showed up (and apparently at the EXACT right time, because while she was up at the front getting her wristband she heard some of soundcheck where they practiced Runaways, but they never played it.)

We waited in line and talked and found out (surprise, surprise) that talking to fellow victims is amazing! lol, She is so completely awesome. I’m so glad I got to see these concerts with her. Anyway, it wasn’t long before Darlene (pickle55) showed up, and I got to meet her as well. There were some cool people around us in line. Some guys in feathered shirts, that I spotted before I had even showed up to the venue. (On the street around the corner when my sister taking me to the venue to drop me off, we saw one of them, and she looked and said “Does that guy have wings on?” and I was like “OMG BRANDON FLOWERS! THAT GUY IS A VICTIM!!!” lol I took a picture of the shirt. haha

Anyway, the guys in feathers were in front of us talking about how they got pictures of Ronnie and everyone and they had just gotten their shirts signed, and when I looked at their pictures Ronnie was in a car. Next thing I knew, Ronnie and they guys were driving by. We could only see Ronnie though. One of the victims ran out into the middle of the street and got a kiss on Ronnie’s cheek. ❤ lol

Eventually we went inside, and we waited in there for a little while. Then they started letting us into the venue. :’) Me and Ericka were really close to the stage! It was amazing. We kind of stood there for a little while and chatted with some of the other victims. I met a guy who was at the show where Brandon performed Roxanne. Then the lights went out and everyone began screaming. The guys came out, and opened with Change Your Mind. I was so excited. I was shaking and screaming and singing my heart out. It was incredible.

You guys probably know the set list by now, but let me just tell you that I told Ericka over and over that if they sang A Dustland Fairytale, I’d cry (because as most of you know that song means EVERYTHING to me) and if they did Moon River after, I might as well just die, because things couldn’t get much better than that. And then they did ADF and Moon River. :’D I cried… a lot. lol

After the show, we went straight out to where The Killers would be coming out. We waited there forever, and the security guy kept on telling us that the guys weren’t coming out to do autographs and that we were wasting our time. We stayed anyway. The girl next to me got tired and said she was going to wait for her friends in the car. She had been to over 20 Killers shows and had met all of them but Dave,  who just happened to be her favorite. We all tried to talk her into staying, but she said the only way she’d be disappointed would be if Dave came out to sign things, which she said he wouldn’t, and she left.

Soon after, the guys came out! Brandon, Ronnie and Dave at least. (No sign of Mark). Everything was happening pretty fast, and there was a pretty big crowd. Brandon came up to the gate and started signing things. I was holding out my Day & Age cover when he came up and he took it and signed it. Then he walked up to me and looked me right in the eyes and was like, “Hey! How are you?” and all I could say was “Can I get a hug!” and he smiled and put his arms around me. It was a full hug too. Not one of those half hugs that he sometimes does. He had his arms fully wrapped around me. ❤ :’)

Of all the moments I can recall in my life, that was and still is easily the greatest. The only way I think it could ever be topped would be the next time I get to hug him, where I might be over the initial shock and I might get to endure it and soak it all in a little more. (I didn’t get a picture with him, but I got the hug, which is much more exciting.)

Anyway, Brandon was swept off pretty quick. Dave had then approached the gate. He signed a few things, and then he was kind of just standing there looking around a little. He had been kind of keeping to the other end of the gate, so when he was just kind of doddeling I looked over and I went “Hey Dave!” And he looked over at me, and I just kind of waved him over to me. He got a big smile and walked over and said “Hey! How’s it going?” and then he signed my CD cover as well. While he was signing it though, Jeremy came over and started dragging him off to the car. I went in to panic mode because he still had my CD. lol, but then he stopped Jeremy and handed the CD cover to him and kind of pointed over to me, and me and the girl behind me were like “OVER HERE!” lol He came and gave it back to me.

Ronnie came by, but the crowd was to thick and I had been pushed too far back to get any contact with him or anything ( I just got blurry pictures). That’s okay though, because I got to meet Ronnie back in July. It’s only fair that other victims get their chance. lol (Here’s one of my blurry pictures.)

Oh, and did I mention that while we were waiting for the guys, one of the crew members came out and was handing out some halves of Ronnie’s drum sticks that were left over and I got one! As did Ericka! ❤

Anyway, the next day was Orlando Calling. FYI, I barely took any pictures during this show because my camera sucks, and I really just wanted to sit back and enjoy it anyhow.

After the night before, I felt like nothing could compare, and so I was thinking of upgrading my ticket to a VIP and just sitting in the stands. The next day I kind of slept in and was sticking with that plan, but then I got a text from Ericka saying that they got there late and she was at the barrier. I decided to just go for the tickets I already had and I’m SO glad I did.

The bands leading up were mostly bands that I wouldn’t really be interested in. I REALLY liked The Avette Brothers though. They took me by surprise and I’m definitely looking them up. The Raconteurs were also pretty good.

Then The Killers came out again. The atmosphere was AMAZING when they did. They took my breath away as if it were the first time I were seeing them. They opened with Spaceman, and the energy was really incredible. They did ADF and Moon River again, and I cried 10x more than I had the night before. They also did a short acoustic segment of Spaceman, and my emotions were so high right then that I practically had a total emotional breakdown. It was fucking beautiful. Let me just say that (you guys have probably seen the videos on YouTube. ❤ )

They shot confetti, and I took a bunch home with me. lol
I got a couple of blurry pictures & that was all, so here’s one of them.

When the show was over, Ericka and I were so insanely happy. The Killers looked so great together. I’ve seen a Flamingo show and a Big Talk show and they were both AMAZING, but they seem so happy when they’re together. They just have a different shine. It’s really amazing. I honestly feel so blessed that I got to see these shows.

Anyway then Ericka and I went to take a picture by the giant OC Killers sign. ❤

After that we said goodbye, and that was the end of my Killers Journey. (The most incredible journey of my life.)

Anyway, the next day we went to Universal, and I was so excited to be able to go to Hogwarts. We had gone late, and we did a few things. Then we went to Olivander’s because I’m a dork and I INSISTED that we couldn’t buy a wand from anywhere other than there, even though the line was forever long. While we were waiting, we heard some screaming and stuff up at the front. Then we heard “RUPERT!!!”

o_o As in Rupert Grint. As in Ron Weasley. He had come on his own time to Universal, and he just happened to come to Olivander’s. We waited with the crowd, for him to come out the exit, and because of where we had been in line we had the PERFECT vantage point for when he did come out. Finally, after about an hour, he did. And I got a picture. 😀 A great one at that. It was so surreal.

I did see an Orca, which is my favorite animal and that was very important to me. A life dream for as long as I can remember. I didn’t get many pictures, cause I took mostly video, but here’s one.

Also…. some flamingos.

Anyway, that’s the end of all the insanely exiting parts of my story.  Sorry this was so long. lol

Big Talk… (the best night of my life)

My summery of Vegas.

Okay. When I got to Vegas, the very first thing I did was go to the Hard Rock Cafe and see the Sam’s Town sign from the tour! The feeling when you first see that sign… it’s magical. It was incredible.

samstown tour sign

After that I went to the M&M and Coca-Cola stores. mnm

Then I went back to the HOB where I saw Brandon back in April so that I could “Feel that fire again”. Yes, “that fire” was still there. ❤

nugget (I got a job at the Nugget and I saved a $1000 for a brand new star….) After walking around the strip for a few more hours and checking into my hotel (the golden nugget), I headed straight back to the Hard Rock Cafe to pick up my ticket and start waiting in line for the show!

It was about 6:00 and the show started, so I thought, at 8. When I got up there, about 15 other people were just showing up and starting a line. I sat there waiting for a bit, and Leah, my online Victim friend, showed up. We waited in line and talked with a nice old man about concerts and things like that. Finally at 8:00 the doors opened. There had been barely anyone in line. We got in, and we were RIGHT next to the stage! As for the hour before the concert actually started, I sat on the stage to wait.

As we waited, we met a guy. He said he knew Ronnie’s mom, and had been a friend of her’s for years. He didn’t know Ronnie though. We also met a fellow victim named Janice. 🙂

I went out and bought a Big Talk t-shirt and put it on for the show. The guy we met asked us to save his spot because he wanted to go talk to Ronnie’s mom, and we did, even though it wasn’t really necessary since getting our spots back was REALLY easy. (Very small crowd). He ended up coming over with Mindy Vannucci! OMG! lol, I was insanely excited! She talked to us a bit, and introduced herself. She said Leah’s name was pretty, and when I introduced myself as Brandi, she thought that I had said Mindy and was totally bummed out when she found out we didn’t have the same name, lol.

Then Most thieves came out. May I just say that the band was INCREDIBLE! I really liked them. I can’t wait to see them again.

After that, the lead singer came over and shook our hands. He gave Leah a high five for being from Vegas. He was really a sweet guy!

Then Big Talk came out! Seeing Ronnie was an experience…. OMG THAT BEARD I lost it. lol We were screaming and cheering! The set list was basically the album… in order. haha

Me and Leah screamed RONNIE VANNUCCI!!!!!!! And then Leah screamed, WE LOVE YOU! And Ronnie looked over and said, “Love you too, babe!”

Life = Made. haha

The performance was AMAZING! I was blown away. Also, can I just say that seeing No Whiskey performed live is indescribable. It was my favorite performance of the night. It was really epic! And that’s saying something, because it wasn’t even one of my favorite songs.

After the show, me and Leah were waiting to see Ronnie. While we were waiting, we saw the bassist and we went over and took a picture with him. He was really nice. 🙂

Then Taylor came out! He is AMAZING! He was so sweet! He signed me and Leah’s CDs and took a picture with us. He was super sweet. He kept giving us hugs and telling us how sweet we were, etc.

I’m a new HUGE fan of Taylor. haha

We had these postcards the some victims had sent to Leah to give to Ronnie, and also these 2 AMAZING pictures that our friend Helo from Brazil drew of Brandon and Ronnie. We wanted to give them to Ronnie. Taylor said he’d be out in about 10 minutes. We waited and waited. No Ronnie. Then Rob came out, and I got a hug from him, and he said he really appreciated us. He was so great! I just love him. haha Anyway, he said Ronnie would be out too, but still… no Ronnie. I had also seen Tommy Marth, but he didn’t come over, and I didn’t get to meet him.

Then Leah saw him out in the hall.

OMG! Ronnie. Vannucci. IN THE FLESH! It was insane.

We went out there. Ronnie had a drink in hand, and was being really cool. He’s so down to earth. Anyway, when we got up to him, we gave him the pictures, and I thought we should take a picture of him with his drawing, because Helo is one of Ronnie’s biggest fans. He was so cute! He pulled the same face that he had in the drawing. lol

Then me and Leah got pictures with him. We were basically just hanging out there for about 30 minutes. He told us that the picture in the CD of the fur was Archie’s (Ronnie’s dog) butt. lol And that Lisa (Ronnie’s wife) had taken that picture and all other pictures in the album art. He also said that she was around, and started shouting… “WIFE?! WIFE! Where are you!?” lol She didn’t come out.

meandronnie ^^^ ME AND RONNIE!!!!! ❤

We both got a hug from Ronnie. May I just say that when Ronnie hugs… he freaking hugs like he means it. He squeezes. This was no half assed hug. I got a pic of Leah and her hug with him… not one of mine though. 😦

Leah hug ^^ Leah hugging Ronnie!

We saw Taylor again, and we talked to him for a bit once more.

Then I asked Ronnie, “So, are you bringing Big Talk to Utah?” and he said, “Hell yeah! We’ll be there in September!”

OMG! I could just die of happiness! I can’t wait to see him again! I walked up to where Leah was, next to Taylor, and I was like, “Hey! Ronnie just said that you guys were coming to see me in Utah in September!” And he was like, “Oh yeah!”.

Then we told Taylor that he was really sweet, and he told us that we were the sweetest. I really do just love this guy. He’s amazing.

BTW… Notice my over-use of the word amazing in this summery. lol, I also overused it that night. I must have told the members of Big Talk and Most thieves that they were amazing 100 times that night.

Anyway, then we finally left.

That night… easily the best night of my life.

The next day, wonderful Leah showed me around Vegas. lol We went to Sam’s Town.

And then I FINALLY got to go see the Bones display. (When I went to see it in April while I was at Brandon’s show, the lady said that it wasn’t up… which turned out to be a lie.)

Basically it was the best trip ever!

I can’t wait to see them again in September!!!! ❤

I see Brandon, I see Sam’s Town…

Alright, I’ve barely calmed down since Saturday. I drove my family crazy ALL weekend. Naturally, the very first step on the itinerary was Sam’s Town.

I See Sams Town

After I forced my family to go to the Hard Rock where they were supposed to have had the Bones music video display, which they didn’t. They were “moving things around” and had it put away somewhere.

The next stop was Mandalay Bay where my family and I went to the Shark Reef, which I’m sure would have been 100x more enjoyable had I not been so anxious to go check out the line at the house of blues.

House of Blues, Las Vegas

Now to the show,
The show was AMAZING! Now, there was no Ronnie, but there was plenty of Brandon, and I was close. I’m talking only a few feet away. *swoon* I must say the first few hours of waiting were somewhat excruciating. My feet wanted to die from standing in the same position for so long. I’ll tell you ladies and gentlemen, it was soo worth it.

The opening act was very enjoyable. The Nervous Wreckords was the name of the band and I definitely recommend checking them out.

The set list was incredible!

He opened with Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas, which is one of the only video’s I got that the sound doesn’t completely suck in (because the drums weren’t going much during it).

After he did a version of Viva Las Vegas, which started out with the tune to Human, which I went completely nuts over.

He then played Crossfire, Magdalena, Betty Davis Eyes (which I had highly anticipated), Jilted Lovers, Read My Mind, Hard Enough, Losing Touch, Swallow It, Only the Young, and then a very passionate performance of Playing with Fire.

After all of that the audience demanded a encore with shouts of “Brandon” and continuances of “Playing with Fire”. He came out and sang Was it Something I said, and then (thank you God) The Clock Was Tickin, and a super acoustic version of When You Were Young.

It was an amazing concert. Next stop… Killers concert.

Brandon & Dave

Well Victims, the time has come. With my road trip to see Brandon live coming up early tomorrow morning there are now less than 30 hours until I’m in the presence of greatness.

Like I said, Greatness.

My arrival to Vegas is less than 24 hours away and for the entire 6 hour road trip I fully plan to be listening to Flamingo and various Killers songs.

Last Night Brandon did a HOB San Diego show where one Dave Keuning showed up to do Mr. Brightside and Read My Mind! I can only hope I’m lucky enough to get another Killer on stage at the Vegas show.

Without further ado, I give you Brandon & Dave performing “Read My Mind” at last nights show…

Betty Davis Eyes/Big Talk

So, after hearing a couple of stories about Brandon’s Flamingo tour, I was under the impression that I might get 8 or 9 songs from the album, maybe a cover, and if I got lucky a Killers song. Well, in the last couple of days I’ve been seeing multiple set lists from these events I’ve learned that it’s likely that Brandon will play Betty Davis Eyes or Viva Las Vegas (considering the location). And that usually he plays Losing Touch, and every now and then if you get lucky, he’ll play When You Were Young. If this is true, (and I’m not going to get my hopes up too high) this is going to be an even greater show than I had hoped for. Below you’ll find a video of Brandon performing Betty Davis Eyes (which I know will be even better live!)

Also, Mr. Ronnie Vannucci let us know himself that he is getting his stuff together and hopes that we will get a musical preview from his solo album “Big Talk” soon. He also let it be known that he will be touring for this album when he can (when he’s not writing with his, and I quote, “real band” aka The Killers, lol), and that he’s hoping for a summertime release. I fully expect to see him come to Utah, so he’d better make it happen. lol
